Reflections at 4:03 AM

Yes, it really is 4:03 in the morning. I've been awake for over two hours, and I just can't get back to sleep. I just ate a bowl of oatmeal, checked my email (I enjoy all of the little notes of encouragement and comments on our blog posts), and then made a second bowl of oatmeal. Despite my frequent yawns, my mind is spinning too rapidly to fall asleep. So, what is keeping me awake? That's a great question...

I'm going to be a mother within a matter of days, and that is such a HUGE life transition. I've been blessed with a wonderful example, but I still have major anxiety about how I will fill this role. Everyone says that my instincts will kick in, but I still have millions of unknowns swimming through my mind. I'm sure that's "normal," but I also think it's part of what is keeping me awake right now.

My husband, the greatest man I know, is so supportive and encouraging. He's going to be an amazing father, and I've already seen him transition into that role. Phis has made this pregnancy such a blessed time, and I treasure every moment with him.

Here is a list of natural induction methods that we've heard in the last week:
- Eat pineapple (I'm allergic...too bad.)
- Drink raspberry leaf tea (I've gone through half a box in the last few days.)
- Eat spicy foods (Phil added Tobasco sauce to my salsa and Ann added wasabi to my sandwich.)
- Go for walks (My shoes are wearing thin.)
- Take a bath or shower (Well duh...that's kind of a daily routine.)
- Mow the lawn (Phil would kill me if I even thought about it at nine-months pregnant.)
- Walk up and down stairs (I think this strategy would lead me to a heart attack rather than labor.)
- Relax and watch movies (Ann and I have done A LOT of this one.)
- Massage (This is always great...not just a pregnancy thing.)
- Activate pressure points (Tried it...no luck.)
- Eat Eggplant Parmesan (We didn't know where to find any.)
- Drive down a bumpy road (Seriously...does that work???)
- Get a pedicure (Phil gave me an "at-home" pedicure...still no baby.)

- The MOST COMMON suggestion: "What gets the baby in, gets the baby out." (NO COMMENT for this one.)

Okay, it's nearly 4:30 AM now. I may try to crawl back in bed. I think there will be a nap in my schedule for Tuesday. If, however, I go into labor, I will have to add my strategy to the list above: Wake up in the middle of the night, eat some oatmeal, and post a blog. We'll see if that works! :)

Hey Corrie! I just tried to post a comment, and it didn't let me. So if, by chance, you receive two comments from me in this blog, sorry. But what I tried to say in the first comment is that I was in the same boat this morning. I woke up really early and just tossed and turned untill I finally got up. However, I don't think that my lack of ability to sleep was caused by the same anxieties that leave you tired today. What are you worrying about anyway?! If there is anyone I know who is going to be the most natural, most loving, most incredibly wonderful mother, that would be you, Mrs. Hillary! You have been such an amazing friend and mother- figure to me in the past few years, I have no doubts for when your own beautiful and blessed daughter finally comes into this world. I will keep praying for you my friend, and, as I sit here, eating a bowl of oatmeal, perhaps a miracle will happen (two friends in two different states, both enjoying the best breakfast known to man, come on! That has "natural induction" written all over it);). Anyways, I hope you are reading this super long comment after getting a lot more sleep...you will soon need it! Love you!!

I guess they're right when they say the baby will just come on its own time and you can't do much about it! It sounds like you have a great attitude, and will have lots of advice for me when I am past my due date and frustrated! At least you know it's gotta come out sometime :) I can't wait til you have good news, I've been checking your blog faithfully! And good luck! Love ya!

You never know, the late night burst of energy might be a clue that she's coming soon! I remember having this huge energy spike just a day or so before I went into labor... Maybe you should find something to clean! I'm pretty sure that helped me. :) Oh and see if you can get your dr to sign you up for an induction date- that seems to work pretty well too- having a date in mind when you KNOW it's going to happen- maybe it makes you relax so it can happen sooner. :) Excited for you!

Hey Cor - thanks for sharing your heart and your thoughts! Unknowns in life are scary but God knows and will always provide what is needed in the moment...even if at times it's hard and messy and you're exhausted! You have such amazing gifts and God is only going to accentuate those as you care for the "gift" He has picked just for you and Phil! You already are and will be an amazing mother!

Funny...I slept GREAT last night! But tonight it's midnight and I just can't sleep! As I was laying in bed, I thought "I wonder if Corrie blogged today?". And I was surprised to find TWO since the last time I looked YESTERDAY!

I didn't see my primrose oil trick on your list. I actually hadn't thought of the most common one. lol.

Enjoy your nap. Thanks for keeping us updated. I know that each of us love your blogs and are happy just to hear from you, even though we know you'd rather be posting Gert's first pictures. : )

Does Phil know how to work this thing? Someone's gonna have to blog for you until you feel up to sitting at the computer! : )

Three cheers for the Hillarys! You two are amazing and such a witness of God's love to us all.

Have so much fun with your family!!
